UK Credit Cards: 0% Balance Transfers
0% Balance Transfers. 0% Balance Transfer credit cards make great sense if you are trying to consolidate your debt onto a single credit card, or if you simply find a card with a lower APR. For instance, if your existing credit card charges an APR of 25%, and another card charges an APR of 16%, then, on first glance it would make sense to transfer the balance of your existing card (or cards) to the new card. However, some credit card companies don't allow this, and others will turn this seemingly simple exercise into another method for extracting money from you. Regardless, there are some credit cards that do provide 0% balance transfers, which we list below.
Nonetheless, although these cards are a good idea, and you can certainly save money, it's a mistake to think that you'll end up paying 0% APR on your transferred balance in perpetuity. There are, essentially, two varieties of balance transfer cards; fixed rate balance transfer cards and limited duration balance transfer cards. With the latter, you may well be offered 0% APR on the transferred balance for maybe six months, or a year; with fixed rate balance transfer cards you'll be offered a guaranteed interest rate for a certain period of time (or until the transferred balance is settled).
Bank of Scotland All In One Credit Card
provides essentially the same card as Halifax All In One Credit Card
, except with different branding, and offers useful features to those wishing to obtain a new credit card, or who wish to transfer balances from store cards or other credit cards. All that you pay is a 3% fee, which is likely to work out as far less than you'd pay if you kept the balance on your existing cards.
